About Us
We are proud to introduce S. L. Roman
S. L. Roman is the collaborative pen name of Laura Meloni Bywaters and Sarah Onions, two teachers turned writers whose passion for historical fiction is deeply rooted in real-life events and often explores the untold chapters of history.
Our friendship and creative partnership spans the Atlantic Ocean, born from a shared desire to uncover and tell powerful stories of quiet bravery amid chaos. Though we write from different countries, our voices come together in harmony, distinct yet united.
The name S. L. Roman blends our initials, S and L, with "Roman" paying tribute to Laura’s birthplace, Rome. It represents two individuals, two perspectives, writing as one.
The forgotten tragedy of a young evacuee in southern England inspired our first novel One Year One Night. During research, we spoke to two local townspeople and a cousin who knew the story of the boy. That experience continues to resonate with us, and we trust it will resonate with our readers as well.
